Studio Naam started in 2011, first as a print-based graphic design studio, which pretty quickly evolved into a digital-focused design agency. We specialise in branding, designing and developing websites, print design, and other digital things. We love it, and considering you’re reading this, you might too.
The name of our studio started as a bit of a joke among friends back in 2011; it literally means ‘name’ in Dutch. As the company lore goes, we were applying for a studio space straight out of design school, and the first question on the form was ‘What is your studio name?’. Studio Naam stuck, and the rest is history.
Over the course of the years, we’ve been through a lot of changes. We’ve hired new people, invested in new equipment, knowledge, workflows, etc. We give it our all to create valuable and beautiful digital products, to push our own boundaries, and also to generally keep the lights on.
So how do we do this? Almost every client we work with is either a referral from a previous client (thank you, we love you) or they’ve encountered our work or process via different channels (don’t worry, we love you too). Design might be what gets us up in the morning, but people and great working relationships keep us coming back for more.
Almost all of our projects start with a good talk, a value-based proposal, and thorough research. From there on, we start making and prototyping. At all times, we iterate and communicate with our clients. No big surprises and reveals, but a collaborative process and productive steps. Our small teams make for quick decisions, keeping the process agile, fluid, and effective.
By having fewer big presentations, we can free up time to spend more effectively on things that actually matter. Using collaborative software keeps the whole team connected and means we can incorporate direct feedback and make better decisions earlier in the process.
The design process is not linear, and stages and phases might vary in sequence. Sometimes we get a great new insight in the design phase that might require additional research. Occasionally we might have to rethink a statement from the research phase, for example, due to test results of a prototype. This flexibility helps to create adaptive and quality products.
