Campaign

BredaPhoto Festival
A multidisciplinary campaign for the 2020 edition of the leading Dutch photography festival.

BredaPhoto is the largest and leading photography festival in the Netherlands, showcasing the cutting-edge of contemporary photography.

In 2020, Naam returned to redesign the visual identity of BredaPhoto, centered on the festival's concept. The theme, 'The best of times, the worst of times,' is inspired by Charles Dickens' book A Tale of Two Cities. With a clear framework, we designed every visual element associated with the festival.

Visual Concept

Clean yet effective.

‘The best of times, the worst of times’ reflects a moment captured in time between the past, present, and future.

We translated this concept into a structured grid, creating flexible frameworks that allow for individuality and contextual relevance. To introduce an element of chaos, we added hand-drawn elements, defacing the posters to infuse an additional layer of transience into the concept.

Brand Experience

Every expression within the campaign uses a basic set of visual ingredients. Our goal was to create a recognisable distinctive visual language across all media.

Venues and exhibitions.

BredaPhoto Festival takes place across a large area of Breda. Much of the festival is free, creating a strong community connection with local residents. Wayfinding and information at various locations guide visitors, helping to immerse them in the photographers' visual concepts.

Social visibility

In addition to print materials and the festival website, BredaPhoto extended its online campaign to engage a wider target audience. Naam developed custom templates, banners, and social media elements to craft a cohesive visual narrative.

To enhance visibility and brand recognition on the streets, we have designed various merchandise items in the festival's distinctive visual style.

Every aspect of the brand contributes to the visitor's experience. From flyers and posters to distributed pencils, each element is meticulously crafted down to the finest detail.

2020

Results
that matter

The 2020 edition of BredaPhoto fell in the middle of the COVID pandemic. Safety measures were implemented, and many venues had to be scaled down. Despite these challenges, both the exhibitions and outdoor locations saw significant visitation between lockdowns. Part of the side program continued online to socially involve both young and old audiences.
